COUNTRY CLUB HILLS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Ferguson police have arrested a man who was shot during an attempted robbery at a north St. Louis County supermarket Thursday morning.

Adam Willoughby, 20, was charged Monday with first-degree attempted robbery.

According to police, Willoughby was concealing his right hand in his jack when he walked into Mally Supermarket in the 7400 block of West Florissant Road in Country Club Hills around 6:30 a.m.

Police said the clerk grabbed his 9 mm pistol and showed the gun to the Willoughby, who began moving back.

Authorities said Willoughby then jumped over the counter and moved towards the clerk. That’s when the clerk shot Willoughby.

An ambulance was called to the scene and transported Willoughby to Barnes Jewish Hospital, where he underwent surgery.

Willoughby remains in custody on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
