JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) – Police arrested a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle and led officers on a chase through parts of Jefferson County on Wednesday.

Authorities were searching for a vehicle that had reportedly been stolen when an officer spotted a man sitting in a car with a similar description on Twin Rivers Rd.

The suspect took off in the vehicle and was lost for a brief moment.

Officers responding to the scene then saw the car near the intersection of Twin Rivers and Jim Weber. The driver again took off.

Authorities said officers gave chase, but stopped because the suspect was driving too fast.

Other officers looking for the man found the stolen car abandoned off Highway 44 near Homestead Acres.

Police called in a K-9 unit, which tracked the suspect’s scent into the woods and located him.

Deputies said the man initially resisted arrest and was bitten by the K-9.

He has since been taken into custody.
