(KMOV) – One of the victims injured in the deadly bus crash involving students from St. James High School says she was saved because someone pushed her out of the way at the last moment.

That someone who pushed her aside was her best friend. She lost her life.

Emily Perona and Danie Klein, two survivors of the crash, are working to heal the emotional pain of losing friend and classmate, Jessica Brinkler, while also healing the physical wounds the accident left behind.

Klein suffered two fractured vertebrae and a fractured skull. Perona remains hospitalized in Rolla with a crushed Pelvis.

Perona says she doesn’t blame the bus drivers, whom the National Transportation Safety Board said were inattentive.

And neither girl thinks seat belts would have helped.

Both girls are expected to eventually make a full recovery and get back to school. Emily Perona will get out of the hospital in about a week.
