(KMOV) – Police are searching for a suspect who shot an employee while robbing a car wash in Midtown St. Louis on Friday.

According to police, the suspect walked into Hands on Detailing in the 520 block of S. Vandeventer around 5 p.m. and asked for a job.

Police say the suspect left the building, then came back in with a gun and announced a robbery.

An employee tried to disarm the suspect, who then opened fire, striking the victim in the stomach. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the suspect ran out of the business through an alley on Clayton, then got into the back of a Chevy Impala parked in the area. It was not known if anything was taken from the business.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s. He’s about 5-feet-8, 200 pounds and was wearing a white hooded jacket with light-colored jeans and a red baseball cap.

Surveillance cameras at the scene captured the suspect on video. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS. A $1,000 reward will be offered for information leading to an arrest.
