POTOSI, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Community members and law enforcement officers gathered to pay tribute to a slain Washington County sheriff's deputy on Saturday night.
Deputy Christopher Parsons, 31, was shot in the back and killed while assisting an EMS crew at a residence off Nugget Road just after 2 a.m. Saturday.
Supporters held a vigil for Deputy Parsons at a funeral home in Potosi just hours after the search for suspect Gary Sancegrow had ended.
Sancegrow, 30, was taken into custody after a manhunt involving local departments, U.S. Marshals and FBI agents.
Trooper Juston Wheetley said the work of law enforcement and assistance from local residents helped bring the suspect into custody without further bloodshed.
"It's a good ending, but a sad tragedy that happened," Trooper Wheetley said.
