ST. LOUIS -- A new feasibility study suggests a modern streetcar line could be beneficial for St. Louis.
St. Louis Public Radio report that the study performed for the Partnership for Downtown St. Louis found that a streetcar line could spur an estimated $540 million in development in its first five years, and more than $2 billion over 20 years.
The project would cost between $219 million and $270 million, and would require an annual budget of nearly $10 million. Half of the funding would come from the Federal Transit Administration. The rest would come, in part, from increasing property assessments along the line.
The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis will collect public comments, starting with an open house Thursday at the Moto Museum on Olive Street.
