(KMOV) – A slight drop in temperatures in the St. Louis region is expected to usher in the strong possibility of storms in the News 4 viewing area on Tuesday.

“Today is the day many of you have been waiting for. The heat is finally going to break!” said News 4 Meteorologist Matt Chambers.

Temperatures Tuesday morning started in the mid-70s and were projected to reach a high of around 90 degrees by the afternoon, when things could get interesting.

“A humid afternoon brings the strong possibility of storms in and around the viewing area,” said Chambers.

Chambers said the best chances for storms during the afternoon will be from the St. Louis area to the south.

Those storm chances will linger around through Tuesday evening as temperatures drop into the mid-60s.

Wednesday morning could see some rain during the rush hour commute, but then we’ll get a partly cloudy and much cooler day.
