Litchfield, Illinois (KMOV.com) – The cleanup is underway in Litchfield, Illinois where morning storms thundered through town blowing over a large tree causing power outages.
No one was injured, but the storm packing heavy rain and powerful wind left its mark.
The worst of the damage happened near Clark and Jackson streets where a large tree split and fell across power lines.
News 4 photographer Nick Zervos says the large maple tree, about three feet in circumference, was rotted on the inside and didn’t stand a chance against winds estimated to be in the 30 mph range.
The tree fell across power lines, knocking out electricity to about one-thousand residents. Ameren Illinois crews were quickly on the scene this afternoon working to restore power.
