KMOV Television Thursday announced that Steve Savard and the station have reached an agreement will keep Savard as anchor of News 4 at 6 & 10 through at least the end of 2016.
Steve has been with the station nearly 20 years, and has been anchoring the #1 late newscast in St. Louis alongside co-anchor Sharon Reed since December 2012. Steve also has been anchoring News 4 at 6 with Reed since late May.
Previously, Savard worked as weekend and substitute news anchor going back to 2006. He originally worked as sports director for the station.
Since Savard moved into a full-time anchor position, KMOV has experienced significant ratings improvement across the board. In the just-completed October ratings period, News 4 at 10 ranked as the highest rated newscast in St. Louis in total viewers, and finished #1 in the time period in adults 25-54.
News 4 at 6 saw a ratings surge as well, moving into second place with a 57% increase in A25-54 ratings compared to October 2012. KSDK and KTVI both saw significant ratings declines. News 4 at 5, which features Savard news stories, won the 5pm news time period in October for the first time in at least 20 years.
“Aside from his exceptional work at the anchor desk, Steve is passionate about getting out every day and covering news in the community,” said KMOV Executive News Director Sean McLaughlin. “He is a true work horse who demonstrates every day how important our role is in advocating for our viewers.”
A native St. Louisan, Savard has enjoyed the evolution of his role at KMOV over the years. "I appreciate the confidence station management has shown in me and really appreciate the way News 4 viewers have accepted my transition to news. I've worked hard to earn our viewers' trust for almost 20 years including the past six as a news anchor. I'm excited about embarking on my third decade here at KMOV in my hometown," Savard said.
