(KMOV.com) -- A St. Peters man is pushing for the right to light up in his own home, after rumors that his condominium association might ban smoking.

Spencer Tegtmeyer said he only smokes in his bedroom, and has an air filter installed in his condo. When a neighbor complained about smoke seeping into her apartment, Tegtmeyer said he sealed any air leaks in his room.

However, association bylaws state that Summergate Condos can make rules and regulations governing the personal conduct of members.

"I'm not going to have that dictated to me by somebody else that really has no power or authority of how I conduct my life," said Tegtmeyer.

News 4 called Steve Grubb, president of the condo association, but no clear answer was given about a possible smoking ban. All further questions were directed to an attorney.

Tegtmeyer said he does not want to pursue the issue in court.

"The ultimate goal here...is leave me alone," he said.
