BROOKLYN, Ill. -- Police continue to search for a St. Louis man who bolted from a southwestern Illinois police department after being found with a handgun.
Authorities said Daryl Shaw, 27, was taken into custody last weekend by Brooklyn police for a traffic violation. He was found to have no valid driver's license or insurance.
Police say an officer discovered a loaded gun tucked into the man's waistband and confiscated it.
The man was handcuffed to a bench at the police department, but he somehow managed to slip out of the restraints and fled.
Shaw has been charged with escape and damage to government supported property. He was also being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon prior to his escape.
