(KMOV.com) – Two men have been charged after attempting to break into a St. Louis city police officer’s home on August 13.

According to police, Justin Hamilton, 31, and Joshua Barry, 27,  have been charged with First Degree Burglary. A $40,000 bond has been set for each suspect.

Police say the 34-year-old officer was asleep in his Southampton home when he awoke to someone breaking in through a back, kitchen door.  The officer fired several shots at two assailants, but missed.  Police said the officer did not use his department issued weapon.

The intruders ran away and got into a nearby pick-up truck.  Responding officers located the truck near Brannon and Winona streets in south city as the burglars were trying to get out of the neighborhood.  Police took Hamilton and Barry into custody for the crime.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

The Southampton neighborhood has scheduled a neighborhood watch meeting for Thursday to beef up citizen patrols and police involvement.
