Temperatures on Wednesday began in the high 40s in foggy conditions. Those numbers were expected to rise to near 80 degrees by the afternoon.

A few storms could develop in the viewing area Wednesday afternoon into evening. With te storms brings potential of large hail and damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.

A slight storm chance is forecasted overnight with a higher chance near or after daybreak. Storms that actually develop may be severe.

“No particular pattern is indicated,” said Ehrhardt. “These storms have the potential to produce large hail and possibly damaging wind gusts. Isolated tornados are not out of the question either.”

“Everyone really needs to get frequent updates over the next 36 hours as these threats can develop very quickly," Ehrhardt said.

Looking ahead, more severe weather is expected on Thursday as the system could bring hail, wind and isolated tornados. Thursday's high will be about 75 degrees.

"A line of storms may hit in the morning and if the atmosphere has energy leftover a hard hitting line of storms will develop again when the cold front moves through in the afternoon. ” said Ehrhardt.

For St. Louis residents, watch this line hit around 2pm to 6pm with the storm threat shutting down in the evening. Colder air will then move in quickly. It will also be a windy day with south winds 20-30 mph and higher gusts.
