MONTGOMERY CITY, Mo.—A northeast Missouri man was sentenced to 11 years in prison after pleading guilty to running over and killing his girlfriend.

Twenty-two-year-old Matthew Menke of rural Warrenton pleaded guilty Wednesday in Montgomery County court to second-degree murder and driving while intoxicated.

Prosecutors say Menke and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Amanda Digirolamo, argued in August 2012., and Menke took the car keys tried to drive off with Digirolamo’s car. Police say she tried to hang onto the hood of the car to stop him but lost her grip and fell, and Menke drove over her.

Authorities say Menke was ordered to spend six months in county jail because he was intoxicated at the time.
