ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Gun stores across the St. Louis area say their supplies of certain types of ammo are running low and it’s getting harder to find suppliers that can help them restock their shelves.

Supplies for all types of ammunition are running low, but shortages are especially severe with the caliber of ammo used in assault rifles.

“A lot of people think the gun ban is going to go into effect this time, they’ve realized all of the threats from the other side that a ban was going to into effect is really true and they’re stockpiling now in case they can’t get it later,” said Steve King, owner of Metro Shooting Supplies in Belleville.

Some customers have seen prices of ammo sold at gun shows increase because of the shortage, but most local stores are still holding the line on prices.
