(KMOV) – A St. Louis alderman wants school buses to slow their roll, claiming they are speeding through residential neighborhoods in his ward.

Alderman Shane Cohn of the 25th Ward said he noticed an increase in buses with some neighborhood children traveling outside the area for charter schools and the voluntary transfer program.

He also said he constantly receives calls and emails from people complaining about speeding buses.

“It causes a bunch of safety issues for passengers on that buss, which are children, and pedestrians are getting in and out of their car on the streets and even the motorists.”

Cohn hopes to begin a safe route program implemented in St. Louis City, so all the school districts can coordinate their routes in south St. Louis.
