(KMOV) – St. Louis Police say residents can help take back the city from criminals, one neighborhood at a time.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department held roll call in the Baden neighborhood, in north St. Louis.

It’s the newest area for officers to start the neighborhood ownership model. The goal is to get the residents of the neighborhood engaged.

Studies have shown the best way to fight crime is through an involved community.

"This is about owning your neighborhood, taking back your neighborhood. We want to reduce crime and improve the overall quality of life for you,” said Sgt. Justin Johnson with the St. Louis Metro Police.

The program has worked in Dutchtown and Lafayette Square neighborhoods.
