ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Chief Dan Isom ended his 24-year career with the St. Louis Police Department Tuesday with a retirement ceremony called a Final Roll Call.

The roll call took place at police headquarters at 2 p.m.

The heads of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies attended to wish Isom well and thank him for his leadership and cooperation.

Isom was the youngest police chief in St. Louis in more than 100 years and the only with a Phd.

During his four years as chief, the crime rate dropped 27 percent.

“I do have to save thank you to all the men and women of the St. Louis police department. You know as chief you make some real difficult decisions. Not all of them are pleasant but you make decisions that are in the best interest of the community as a whole,” said Isom.

Isom is retiring from the department to take a job as a criminology professor with the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

His last official day on the job will be January 1.
