(KMOV) – The Jewish community in St. Louis is offering an outpouring of support for the three victims killed in the Passover Eve shooting at two Jewish-related sites in the Kansas City area on Sunday.

A 14-year-old boy and his grandfather were killed outside the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. They were apparently inside a car. A female was killed a few minutes later in the parking lot at Village Shalom, an assisted living facility.

Glenn Frazier Cross, 73, was arrested in the shooting Sunday afternoon. Cross, who also goes by Glenn Miller, is a known white supremacist and known for his anti-Semitic sentiments. Witnesses say he said “Heil Hitler” after he was taken into custody.

Local leaders say the timing right before the holiday of Passover is suspicious and alarming. But they also add the shooting seems to go beyond the Jewish community.

“This is terrorism, it is designed to scare, it’s not an attack on the Jewish community of Kansas City, this is an attack on an American community, fully integrated with Kansas City and with Missouri and that really is the story,” said Prof. Andrew Rehfeld with the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.

Officials with the St. Louis Jewish Community Center say they do have security, but they don’t disclose their measures.
