(KMOV) – St. Louis County police say more and more suspects are burglarizing homes in the middle of the day, sometimes while the residents are at home.

Manchester resident Gina Lamore says while her quiet street is normally a stranger to crime, it happened to her neighbor last week.

“Someone did try to break in. They rang the doorbell and by the time she got there, she saw her running around to the back and then she saw them trying to break in one of the back doors,” Lamore said.

A few miles south in St. Louis County, a neighborhood with brand-new homes recently became a victim of crime when an oven was ripped out and taken from a display home.

“You like to think that you’ve moved into a good neighborhood, and this is a good neighborhood, we have good neighbors and everything,” said St. Louis County resident Barb Talleur.

Police say they don’t know who is responsible for the crimes, and residents are uneasy because many of the incidents are happening during the day.

Authorities say it’s important residents watch out for their neighbor, and to call 9-1-1 if anything suspicious is seen.
