(KMOV) – St. Clair County is close to rehiring some of the 12 deputies that were laid off in January 2010. The decision has come after several unanswered 911 calls and a brawl involving nearly 200 people since the layoffs.
A decision will be formally announced on April 25. The deputies union accepted the county’s decision to bring eight deputies back on patrol with no back pay or raise until 2013.
A K-9 officer and his dog will be brought back on force after being laid off.
The drug unit will also be brought back once everyone goes through the mandatory retraining.
Four of the deputies are working in the St. Clair County jail.
