(KMOV.com) – The St. Clair County Council made it possible for a medical marijuana greenhouse to open Tuesday.
The council voted to change zoning ordinances which will allow a company to open a greenhouse where marijuana plants can be grown.
Officials said potential investors are seeking to open a facility near Marissa in the southeastern part of the county. Those investors were expected to file paperwork Wednesday, but it is not finished.
St. Clair County officials have cleared any legal obsitcles for growing medical marijuana, but applicants must be approved by county and state. Officials said such a greenhouse will be tightly regulated.
Officials believe the county will reap new tax revenue from the growing facility.
