(KMOV) – Several St. Charles schools were placed on lockdown as police searched for a robbery suspect Monday afternoon.

The lockdown affected Null, Monroe, Jefferson, St. Charles West and Lewis and Clark schools. According to a posting on the district's Facebook page the lockdown was lifted shortly before 1:30

Police say there was no direct threat to the schools, but police were searching for a nearby suspect who they said robbed a comic book store.

According to police, an employee of the Fantasy Shop was approached by the suspect in the store’s parking lot just before 11 a.m. Police said the suspect then demanded the employee turnover a bank bag and implied that he had a weapon. According authorities, the employee handed over the bag and the suspect ran.

Police describe the suspect as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with dark brown hair; police believe he was wearing a navy blue Cardinals jacket, dark blue pants, and dark colored tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Charles Police at 636-949-3562 or Crimestoppers at 636-949-3333.
