(KMOV) – An officer shot a man to death after he allegedly threatened police with a knife in St. Charles Wednesday evening.
According to police, officers responded to a home in the first block of Clark Ct. around 9 p.m. after witnesses say a 52-year-old man was threatening neighbors and setting off fireworks.
Police arrived on scene and found the man holding a knife in one hand and what appeared to be a gun in the other. He then threatened the officers, who tried convincing him to put the weapons down.
Police say he refused and kept walking towards the officers. That's when one of the officers opened fire, hitting the suspect. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Authorities later determined the apparent gun was not functional.
The officer, a 13-year veteran, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
Police have not yet identified the suspect.
