(KMOV) – A St. Charles man was charged Thursday with his third DWI and driving on a revoked license after his family called 911 in an attempt to stop him from driving.

Kurt E. Zerface, 57, was charged with driving while intoxicated as an aggravated offender and driving with a revoked license according to the St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

On Tuesday, August 13, 2013, St. Charles deputies responded to a report that a family member had called to prevent Zerface from driving while intoxicated.

According to authorities, when deputies arrived on scene, Zerface had already driven away against his families’ wishes.

A short time later, deputies located Zerface’s vehicle at the intersection of St. Peters Howell and Central School road in the parking lot of Lots of Liquor.

Deputies say Zerface was sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys still in the ignition, the vehicle started, and a strong odor of alcohol coming from within the vehicle.

According to deputies, Zerface’s eyes appeared to be bloodshot and watery and his speech was noticeably slurred.

After being advised to turn off the ignition, deputies say Zerface admitted to having consumed more vodka than he should have to drive.

According to deputies, Zerface was arrested following a poor performance on a sobriety test and refusing to submit a breath sample.

Following his arrest, it was revealed that Zerface had three separate alcohol-related driving convictions prior to his arrest on August 13.  In 1986, he pleaded guilty to driving with excessive blood-alcohol content, and pleaded guilty to DWI in both 1999 and 2002.

Zerface is being held in St. Charles County jail.

Bail was set at $50,000 cash-only.
