(KMOV.com) - A St Charles man says the city of Hazelwood is going after him because of a parking ticket issued to his deceased mother.

Cody Turner says Hazelwood police issued a parking ticket to his mother in April, some four months after she died. Police said her car was parked in no parking zone along Lindbergh. Now, he said police are telling him he needs to appear in court.

“I was told if I don't appear in court tonight there will be a warrant for my arrest," Turner told News 4.

Turner, a Coast Guard reservist, says he did offer to send in a death certificate to prove his mother died.

Hazelwood Police Lt. Michael Brady says parking tickets are usually issued to the person who registered the car and the fines are not transferrable to other relatives. Police said it was possible that someone else was driving her car.
