ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Democrats and republicans in St. Charles County are working together in an effort to catch people who steal or deface political signs.
Both parties are working across party lines to put vandals and thieves in cuffs. The parties are each offering a $250 reward for anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest or conviction.
Todd Morton, Chairman of the Democratic Central Committee said, “We are very serious that the integrity of the election process must be maintained, and not denigrated by those who would wish to take others’ voices away, simply because they disagree with them.”
Jon Bennett, Chairman of the Republican Central Committee added, “Every year, we hear of such damage with signs being stolen, torn or even burned prior to the November elections. We want people to know that those signs are on private property with the permission of private property owners, and if you are callous enough to trespass and take away peoples’ First Amendment rights, both the Republican and Democratic Parties of St. Charles County are going to seek your prosecution.”
Both political parties have their respective campaign headquarters open, and voters can pick up signs or volunteer at each of them. The democrat headquarters is at 3551 Veterans Memorial Drive in St. Charles, and the republican headquarters is at 4080 Mexico Rd. in St. Peters.
