(KMOV.com) – The culprit has been found for a power outage issue in Waterloo, Ill: Squirrels.

According to Waterloo mayor, the squirrels are the reason behind spontaneous power outages, the most recent being on Sunday and Monday.

There are squirrel guards in place to try and protect the power lines, but witnesses say outages are a regular occurrence.

The mayor said more squirrel guards will be going up to help put a stop to the outages.
