BROWNSTOWN, Ill. (KMOV) – A southern Illinois high school student posted a shooting threat on Facebook against another student, according to Browntown District 201Superintendent Adam Bussard.

According to Bussard, the Brownstown High School student was taken to the school office after he threatened another student on Facebook.

District officials then contacted the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

“We followed our school safety plan, which had been reviewed by law enforcement authorities. We did not have to evacuate or lock down the school because the student in question was under supervision in our office and we determined that he was not armed and not an immediate threat to anyone,” Bussard said in a statement Friday. “He was removed from the campus by the Sheriff’s Department.”

Bussard said no other details would be shared because of student privacy issues.

“The safety and welfare of all of our students, faculty and staff are a top priority in our school district,” he said.
