Should St. Charles County residents be able to vote on a smoking ban this November?

(KMOV) -- Talk of a possible smoking ban is heating up St. Charles County.

On Monday, the St. Charles County council discussed the possibility of putting the issue on the November ballot. They heard from a representative with the American Cancer Society who said that smoking bans are becoming the norm, not the exception.

Although it wasn't officially on tonight's agenda, there were several residents who showed up to give the council their thoughts. That included Girl Scouts who favor a ban, and a bar manager who opposed it.

This debate is just one of many happening in counties around the area and across the country.
