(KMOV) – Police are looking for suspects who backed a stolen truck into the front door of a liquor store in north St. Louis County early Monday morning.

According to police, five suspects drove through the Park ‘N Shop in the 8800 block of Jennings Station Rd. around 5:30 a.m.

Authorities said the suspects entered the store and took the cash register, a laptop and an unknown number of high-end bottles of alcohol. They also smashed a glass display case. The foundation, frame, security bar and door were all badly damaged.

One of the workers estimated the suspects stole about $2,000 worth of goods and caused about $10,000 in in-store damage.

The store has been open for about two years. One of the workers told News 4 they have never had any problems.

Though none of the workers wanted to talk on camera, they said there is nothing else they can do to stop the brazen criminals.

There are eight surveillance cameras on the inside and outside of the liquor store. A metal barricade also blocks the glass door.

One of the owners blames the rash of smash and grabs on the economy.

“It is going to be a nasty summer. Look at what they are stealing,” the owner said as he motioned to the half-empty liquor shelf behind him.

St. Louis County police later recovered the stolen red pickup truck at Interstate 70 and Lucas and Hunt.

Police said they were investigating whether the burglary was connecting to a similar crime at a midtown St. Louis pawn store Monday morning.
