Patrol car struck as multiple wrecks back up traffic for miles on I-270

A series of wrecks caused a traffic nightmare for those heading into St. Charles County Friday morning.

(KMOV) – A series of wrecks caused a traffic nightmare for those heading into St. Charles County Friday morning.

The wrecks happened on westbound Interstate 70 at Interstate 270 around 6:15 a.m.

One of the vehicles involved in a wreck appeared to have hit a Missouri Highway Patrol car when being moved off the road. The patrol car sustained minor damage.

Another other car landed on its roof and settled in a ditch off the interstate.

SkyZoom 4 cameras captured one person being put in handcuffs, though no additional details were available.

Multiple lanes of I-70 were closed and Interstate 270 was backed up for miles in both directions as crews worked to clear the scene.

Minor injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident was unknown.
