ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV) -- Police opened fire on the occupants of a car Friday afternoon during a routine traffic stop in north St. Louis County.

The incident unfolded when St. Louis County police pulled over a white 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Chambers Road and Empire Drive.

As the cops got out to approach the car, the driver of the vehicle put it into reverse, rammed the cop car, then swerved twice trying to strike each of the cops.

Police shot twice at the car, but the driver sped away.

One suspect is believed to be in custody, but there is no information right now on when or where he was caught.

Police initially thought the suspect fled to a nearby apartment complex near Chambers and Halls Ferry roads, but a search of the complex turned up nothing.

We will keep you updated on KMOV.com as more information comes in.

Well, That's about on-par with the area. I grew up near there and it is behind enemy lines now.

What a shame how when the rif raf moves in the area goes to hell! They have no shame of their actions or consquences for anything they do! It is like the wild west!

Castle Point has been rough for years. This story is nothing new for the area.

Yeah, my wife grew up just North of there and her Mother still lives there. We only go there during daylight hours and pray to thank god when we get out of there with out any BS happening.
