Shots fired during Illinois emergency room struggle

(KMOV.com) -- A struggle between a correctional officer and a prisoner at Illinois hospital ends after two gunshots ring out.
 
According to police, on Sunday around 4 p.m., the shots were fired inside the emergency room at the St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, Illinois.  
 
Police said, a Dennis Parker, 26, was taken to the hospital by two Clinton County Correctional Officers to receive treatment for some type of medical condition.  While in the emergency room, Parker struggled with the officers.  During the struggle, he grabbed the sidearm weapon of one of the officers, causing it to discharge twice.
 
The officers were able to secure the weapon and get Parker under control without further incident.  Officers reported that there were no injuries resulting from the confrontation.  
 
After medical treatment, Parker was taken to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office.  On Monday morning, he was turned over the Illinois Department of Corrections.
 
Parker was arrested over the weekend on outstanding warrants.
