ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A south St. Louis shoe store was looted late Monday night, according to police.
Authorities said approximately 10 carloads of people smashed windows and looted the Shoe Carnival in the 3500 block of Bamberger at 11:54 p.m.
According to police, numerous items were taken from the store. Following the incident, there was broken glass, socks and shoes scattered around the floor of the store.
The store was able to reopen, but south St. Louis residents are concerned that the crime will continue.
"You don't destroy businesses. That's not going to accomplish anything. It's only going to put a bad stigma on the neighborhood," said one resident. "Everybody in the neighborhood is not bad. But you do have people who want to take advantage of the situation."
There is surveillance video from the store, but nobody has been arrested. A Radio Shack store two doors away was also targeted by looters, but they were not able to get inside.
