ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- At least 20 people have claimed thieves took their license plate tags while parked at the popular Stadium East garage in downtown St. Louis
Crystal Gegg is one of the drivers who have had their license plate tags stolen out of the garage over the last month.
Those who park there say it has gotten way out of hand.
“It’s just very frustrating that everyday people go out to their cars and we’re waiting on someone to text us on whether their stickers are there or not and it’s just kind of sad,” said Gegg.
Jennifer McColgan estimates around 40 percent of those who work in her building and park in Stadium East have been victimized by the thieves.
She says it’s causing some to take drastic preventative measures.
“Some people get a screwdriver and take their license plates off every day to bring them in so it doesn’t happen to them,” said McColgan. “It’s been ongoing for over a month. I think it’s just getting a little ridiculous.”
Those who have had their tags stolen say it costs them $12 dollars to replace them.
Bet they also say that’s not the worst part. It’s the fact someone would actually do it.
“More the burden of anything that was put on me for having to replace my tags, but also the insecurity of knowing someone’s walking around in the building stealing stuff and they can’t catch the guy,” said Gegg.
News 4 attempted to contact the garage, but no one responded.
