WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (KMOV) – Crews battled a large series of brush fires that broke out in Washington Park Friday evening.
The fires started along train tracks near Interstate 64 and Highway 111 around 5 p.m., but the wind caused flames to spread both north and south.
According to officials, sparks from a freight train may have started the brush fire.
At the height of the blaze, at least 10 fire departments were working to control the flames. According to fire officials, about 40 acres were burned.
No injuries were reported.
