ST. LOUIS—An 11-year-old boy shot dead inside his St. Louis home on Wednesday was a “model student” who was popular among his classmates and teachers.

Antonio was among seven people inside a home in the 2600 block of Tholozan when a gunman climbed up on a ledge and fired eight to 10 shots through a first-floor window. Antonio, shot in the head, was the only person struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Antonio’s death hit hard at Froebel Elementary School. His fourth-grade teacher, Donna Horton, says Antonio was shy but popular, a hard-working boy who was studious.

Jennifer Florida, Alderman for the 15th Ward, said she was stunned by the violent act.

“My heart goes out to the family and the loss of this little one,” Florida said, “In the next couple of weeks, they plan on doing an intensive hotspot policing tactic over here in this area of Tower Grove.”

Police are still searching for the gunman and say it was a targeted shooting.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest in the case. Authorities are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
