BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A Belleville police car got wedged under a school bus after a wreck Friday morning.
Officials said the crash happened around 7:30a.m. in the 600 block of North 28th Street.
According to reports, the First Student bus had stopped to make a pickup when the officer on patrol got distracted and struck the back of the bus.
The impact caused the squad car to run under the rear bumper of the bus.
Police said there were five students on the bus ranging in age six to 11. The driver and the students were not injured. The students were transferred to another bus or picked up by their parents at the scene.
The deputy in the cruiser was also not injured.
The bus sustained minor damage and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
The roadway was wet at the time of the accident and is believed to have been a contributing factor.
