ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV) -- Police say a man who locked himself inside a hotel room and caused a standoff with SWAT units in south St. Louis County Thursday has surrendered.

Police said they were trying to issue warrants to a man at the Motel 6 near the intersection of Lindbergh and I-55, but he wouldn’t open the door.

Police said the man was on the run after an officer on Saturday pulled over a stolen truck with three guns inside in Alton. The suspect backed the truck into the officer and landed in a creek. The suspect then fled the scene, eventually checking into the Motel 6.

St. Louis County police arrived to the hotel Thursday afternoon and tried for several minutes to get the man out of his room before calling the tactical team.

Authorities said the man eventually surrendered and was taken away in an ambulance around 4:15 p.m. His condition is unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

Several rooms at the hotel were evacuated as a precaution and a woman who was with the suspect was detained by police.

Additional details were not immediately available.
