(KMOV) – Parents are wanting answers after they say their child’s unaccredited district is not giving them the chance to get their kids a better education.
Those upset parents say they were turned away at Riverview Gardens School District when they attempted to submit student transfer paperwork.
The deadline for students wishing to transfer to an accredited district was Thursday, August 1.
Parents were originally told the doors would stay open until 3 but a sign posted on the Riverview Gardens door listed the hours for applying to be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parents say the sign was not posted on Wednesday and that they feel like they’ve been lied to. Riverview District told News 4’s Lindsay Bramson the signs were posted and that they did get the word out.
The Cooperating School District told News 4 that they became aware of Riverview Gardens changing the deadline from 3 p.m. to 1 p.m. after parents filed complaints with the CSD after they were turned away around 1 p.m.
The Children’s Education Alliance was also unaware of the time change.
The CSD was not sure how Riverview shared the time change with parents but said it is the school district’s call to make that change if deemed necessary
The CSD said they are taking all calls pertaining to the incident and are monitoring the situation.
News 4 will continue to follow up on this school transfer development as the new school year nears.
