(KMOV.com) – Ritenour School District officials confirmed all schools were locked down Thursday after Woodson Terrace police informed them of a police situation in the area.

Officers say the incident was the result of two rival gangs who had been feuding with each other. Around 11:30 a.m., one group of three people were driving on Tipton Drive. Somewhere between the 3800 and 3900 block, they encountered a rival group of about five or six members.

The second group reportedly threw a brick at the first group's vehicle. The driver of the SUV then allegedly tried to hit the group with the vehicle but lost control and crashed into a house destroying a car port and pinning a truck under it. The SUV then ricocheted into a neighboring house.

The two groups then began fist fighting in the street. When officers arrived, the groups scattered. Police took nine people into custody.

Seven adults and two juveniles were taken in, and police say they will likely face charges from assault to disturbing the peace.

Ritenour Schools were locked down while police cleared the scene.

By 1:20 p.m, the schools had lifted the lockdown and activities resumed as normal.
