(KMOV.com) -- Thousands of dollars in rent money missing in St. Ann, Missouri.
About 20 people at Colonial Apartments got late payment notices even though they had already paid rent.
News 4 first broke the story Tuesday night and has since talked with the apartment managers, who say they have no idea where the cash went.
President Mike Henja of the Gundaker Commercial Group says he fired the manager at Colonial Apartments Monday over inconsistencies in the books.
Residents learned about those inconsistencies when they found late payment notices on their door Tuesday afternoon.
Representatives from Gundaker met with concerned tenants Wednesday morning and say no action will be taken against any resident .
“They’re not gonna kick nobody out,” said resident Jermain Garrett. “Everything anybody owes, they’re just going to credit back to them. Everybody gets fresh start.”
Residents are certainly glad to hear they're not being forced to pay their overdue balances, but the finger pointing continues.
Henja says his team is collecting all the evidence and they will be turning this case over to the St. Ann Police Department on Friday.
