(KMOV.com) – Many Eureka residents are concerned that a strip mine may open up next to a neighborhood.
The Winter Brothers Material Company is planning to open a mine on a 240 acre piece of land. Steven Sanders and his wife Jackie, who live next to the proposed mine site, told News 4 they are concerned about the environmental impact.
Eureka’s City Administrator said city officials will not comment on the possible mine because the company has not applied for a permit to rezone the land.
Winters Brothers will be holding an open house 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Eureka Parks and Recreation Center to answer questions residents have about the mine.
