(KMOV.com) – Jennings residents are concerned about holes that have been dug into a street.

Missouri American Water hired Bates Utility, a contractor, to replace a water line on Apricot Street, which meant crews have had to dig holes in the street. Construction crews put orange cones around the holes Thursday, but residents said there was no fencing around them for two weeks.

“It was just big holes in the ground, there was no safety or anything, they came today and put the wrapping around it,” said resident Terrance McCottrell.

Residents said the lack of fencing made the holes less visible to pedestrians and cars and night.

“Really dangerous because cars don’t see it until they are very close to it,” said McCottrell

Missouri American Water said it will meet with Bates Utility Friday to make sure all proper safety measures are taken.
