BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- A former state lawmaker is the new clerk of St. Clair County.

The county’s board on Monday night unanimously approved the appointment of Tom Holbrook as the replacement of Bob Delaney, who resigned last week after an employee accused him of sexual harassment.

Sixty-three-year-old Holbrook is a Democratic former state representative for the 113th District, which includes Belleville. He recently has led the Illinois Pollution Control Board, from which he plans to resign. He’ll begin as county clerk on July 1 and complete Delaney’s current term that ends in December of next year.

Delaney abruptly resigned last Wednesday after an employee accused him of discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination. He denied any wrongdoing.
