COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- The 27-year-old daughter-in-law of Missouri Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer has died in a car accident in central Missouri.
Amy Luetkemeyer, of Meta, died Friday after an accident in Maries County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
She had been married to the congressman's son, Trevor, since October 2009, said Paul Sloca, spokesman for Rep. Luetkemeyer.
"It's obviously a very difficult time for the family, and we appreciate the outpouring of condolences that the families have gotten so far," Sloca said Saturday.
The patrol said Amy Luetkemeyer's car crossed the center line and sideswiped an oncoming vehicle. Her car then went off the road, overcorrected and collided with another vehicle. The patrol said she was wearing a seatbelt.
Funeral arrangements were pending Saturday, Sloca said.
Rep. Luetkemeyer, a millionaire businessman and Miller County cattle farmer, is seeking a second term representing the sprawling 9th District, which stretches from Columbia to the western edge of the St. Louis metro area.
The district includes Columbia, Hannibal, Kirksville, Hermann, Franklin County and a part of the Lake of the Ozarks.
Luetkemeyer will face James O. Baker of St. Peters in the Republican primary Aug. 3. The Libertarian Party candidates are Steven Wilson of Westphalia and Christopher W. Dwyer of Hallsville. The Democrats do not have a candidate in the race.
