(KMOV) – A re-zoning request will go on in Dardenne Prairie after a vote at a board of aldermen meeting Wednesday night.

The board of alderman meeting at Darenne Prairie City Hall was standing room only as residents voiced their opposition to an apartment complex and other multi-family housing that will replace property near the intersection of Bryan Rd. and Feise Rd. on the western side of St. Charles County between O’Fallon and Lake St. Louis.

In a tie-breaking vote, Mayor Pam Fogarty voted to continue the re-zoning.

Residents in Dardenne Prairie previously launched a campaign to stop developers from re-zoning property in the area. But opponents told News 4 the fight is far from over.

Hundreds of residents have been involved in the creation of a Facebook page called “Preserve Dardenne Prairie,” along with an online petition.

An attorney for the family who owns a 175-acre chunk of land told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch the request to re-zone is just an attempt to make the land more marketable down the road.

So instead of only having the option to build single-family homes there, a potential developer could build multiple big box stores and apartment buildings.
