ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Maybe the public’s best chance to honor Stan Musial will take place during a public visitation at the Cathedral Basilica in the Central West End on Thursday.
The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cathedral, located at 4431 Lindell Boulevard in St. Louis.
The public visitation will give fans possibly the best opportunity to pay their respects, as Musial’s funeral Saturday will be closed to the public.
Lindell will remain open during the visitation on Thursdsay, and police will be on scene helping with parking between Taylor and Newstead.
Visitors, who are asked to enter the cathedral through the main front doors, will not be allowed to take pictures during the six-hour visitation.
The Musial family has asked all mementos to be taken to his statue at Busch Stadium, not the cathedral.
Musial’s funeral will be held at the same place on Saturday at 11 a.m., though it is a private ceremony.
Immediately following the mass, the funeral procession will make its way to Busch Stadium, where the family will lay a wreath at the base of the statute of Stan Musial as part of a prayer ceremony before proceeding to a private burial.
