(KMOV)-- Ameren shareholders were greeted by about a dozen protesters outside a meeting at Powell Hall Thursday morning.
Most arrived to protest nuclear power, but the purpose of the protest was to speak out against Ameren Missouri’s plan to have customers pay $45-million in planning costs for a second nuclear reactor.
"They're trying to repeal a consumer protection law that would allow them to charge ratepayers without providing any service in return and that's just fundamentally against how goods and services work in this country," Ed Smith from the Missouri Coalition for the Environment said.
The protesters also brought a mock invoice, billing Ameren for what the demonstrators call billions of dollars in environmental and monetary losses, by producing nuclear power.
Eight environmental groups were represented at the protest.
